Chem 550 Term Project

In the second half of the semester you will work on a term project and give a presentation to the class. Small teams of 2-3 students should pick a topic related to the material covered in the course. The goal is to explore one of the topics at a deeper level. You will need to do some basic reading, which could be throug specialized books, reviews and original papers. You could dig deeper into something covered in class, learn about a recent topic of much interest, or understand and present an algorithm for quantum dynamics simulation. The topic should not be something that your group is working on, and you should be something fairly new to you.
Once you have an idea, you should email Prof. Makri the topic, along with a couple of sentences on what you would like to cover. Lets have the topics finalized by March 31st. You would have approximately a month to read and prepare a short presentation to the class. Each presentation should be about 25-30 minutes long, with 5 additional minutes for discussion. You will use the class time on March 24th to brainstorm and identify team members.

Example topics:
Statistics of level spacings
Conical intersections and geometric phases
Equilibrium properties of low-temperature bosons
System-bath Hamiltonians and decoherence
Real-time path integral methods
